Head of Credit

The Head of Credit is responsible for the overall credit risk management of the company and oversees all credit related functions, including the underwriting and closing functions and is responsible for the development, maintenance, and execution of all credit policies, underwriting processes, credit risk analysis, and transaction management related to successful structuring, originating and closing of Agency and select non-Agency loans.

Duties + Responsibilities

  • Set the vision for NewPoint’s credit processes and functions and be “face” to the market, market participants and capital partners with regard to our credit posture.
  • Review early-stage business opportunities for prospects or for existing clients, providing insights as to risks, factors to be considered, additional information needed for decisioning, structuring changes, creative solutions, etc.
  • Collaborate with Product Manager(s) to develop new products and credit solutions, including drafting and maintaining related credit policies, guidelines and specialized processes required to support the business.
  • Develop and maintain overall credit policy and provide oversight to all business and product lines.
  • Ensure appropriate product/industry specialties are involved as a means of promoting sound underwriting.
  • Define creative solutions relative to credit structures/opportunities.
  • Manage and/or oversee the due diligence/underwriting process, establishing credit policies and practices as it relates to various programs/financing.
  • Directly manage underwriters supporting the Agency originations teams and enforce program requirements.  Provide oversight to and support for non-Agency underwriting teams.
  • Developing, implementing and monitoring quality control standards.
  • Manage audit of loan origination process and personnel periodically to ensure compliance with credit policies.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Economics or related field; Master’s degree preferred.
  • 10 to 15 years of credit/commercial real estate/underwriting experience, with at least five years of Agency underwriting experience.
  • Ability to understand capital markets and complex financing and product structures.
  • General knowledge of underwriting and closing processes and requirements.
  • Strong analytical abilities to grasp complex transactional issues and assess risk.
  • Must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills along with organizational, communication and multi-tasking skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills required along with the ability to collaborate and build relationships.
  • Strong leadership capability and ability to manage in a dynamic, entrepreneurial environment.
