Tonya Barnes

Tonya Barnes is Head of Closing for NewPoint. In that capacity, she is responsible for overseeing and streamlining all closing and transaction management activities.  

Barnes has 30 years of diversified real estate banking experience and has handled closings for a variety of property types, including multifamily, affordable housing, seniors housing, manufactured housing and student housing. Prior to joining NewPoint in 2022, she was an Executive Vice President overseeing the property management division for multifamily/affordable housing investor Avanath Capital Management – returning to the firm after previously serving as Senior Vice President. Between her two tenures at Avanath, Barnes was Vice President and Closing Manager with KeyBank Real Estate Capital, where she led a team responsible for closing between $4 billion and $6 billion of Agency loans on an annual basis.

Barnes earned a Bachelor of Arts in Business Organizational Management at Vanguard University of Southern California. She serves on NMHC’s Member Engagement and OPTECH Conference Planning Committees, and is an active member of Chief, the network of women in executive leadership.
