Kara Tappan
Kara Tappan is NewPoint’s Head of Legal, responsible for all legal matters affecting the Company, and also serves as Corporate Secretary. She was promoted to the roles in November 2024.
Kara joined NewPoint in 2021 as Associate General Counsel. She quickly expanded that role from handling litigation, licensing and employment matters to a position that touched most aspects of NewPoint's business, including broker-dealer, registered investment advisor, agency compliance and corporate governance, and became a trusted advisor to the NewPoint leadership team.
Prior to joining NewPoint, Kara's legal practice centered around providing a wide range of legal services to start-up and small-business clients. She handled both business litigation matters as well as corporate governance, transactional, and advisory services for early-stage and established business clients. In addition to legal practice, Kara has taught a variety of constitutional law classes to both undergraduate and graduate students as an adjunct professor at George Mason University. Her favorite part of teaching is the mentorship she's able to provide to students and young professionals.
Early in her career, Kara served as a judicial law clerk on the District of Columbia Court of Appeals and worked in the Appellate and Constitutional Law practice group at Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP, where she assisted on numerous briefs filed in the Supreme Court of the United States.
Kara holds a Bachelor of Arts in Communication from George Mason University and a J.D. from The Catholic University of America, Columbus School of Law.
